Our medically fragile program follows the principles of palliative care. Animals with illness are paired with kindred souls in the community* who have agreed to give the animal a home and family. The projected lifespan varies for each animal, but all require some level of special care. The support team consists of doctors, specialists, the caregiver(s), KSF case manager, and other KSF volunteers. KSF covers the cost of food, supplies, and medical care and emotionally supports the caregiver. *limited to certain cities

Our special needs program was created for the misfits. These are the cats and dogs who are not elderly or in need of special medical care, but who are a little too timid, require extra attention, or who have been passed over for more ‘attractive alternatives’.  We match these loving beings with kindred souls in the community* who simply do not have the financial resources to adopt an animal companion, but who are committed to caring for an animal in need. As with our senior and medically fragile programs, KSF covers the costs of food, supplies, and medical care. *limited to certain cities

Our outreach programs were designed to keep pets with their families and out of an already overburdened welfare system. We serve the Nativity House Apartments and Stability Site pets in Pierce County by providing free food, supplies, and spay/neuter vouchers. Our volunteer LVTs and veterinarian provide free wellness exams, core vaccines, flea treatment, de-wormer, nail trims and basic wound care to the resident pets.

Far too often, older animal companions are abandoned or euthanized because of their age. Age does not define our value or worth. Our senior companion program matches people 62+ in our community* with cats or dogs 8+ and provides food, cat litter, supplies, and medical services to the animal for the remainder of the animal companion’s life. Each animal has a case manager who coordinates the animal’s food and supply delivery and vet appointments at Chambers Creek Vet Hospital in Lakewood, WA. *limited to certain cities

Our objective is to find the best matches for potential adopters and animal companions and foster families help us with that important task! Foster families provide a temporary home to an adoptable animal companion. They participate in the adoption process by taking the animal to adoption events and meeting the potential adopter(s). They provide all they have learned about the animal through observations and interactions so that we can find a true forever family for the cat or dog. We need families of all sizes, with/without other dogs and cats, and with/without children.

Since 2018 we have partnered with the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center in Pierce County to serve animals of domestic violence.

We provide food, supplies, and services to animals who are fleeing domestic violence situations with their devoted human companion. An on-site Pet Pantry stocked with items allows the advocates immediate access to the needed supplies. Spay/Neuter certificates are issued to the survivor so that he/she can ensure the cat or dog is not at risk for becoming pregnant. Core vaccines are covered at the time of spay/neuter or at free vaccine clinics we offer during the year.
