Our Long Term Programs were designed to give abandoned, abused, and neglected cats and dogs a permanent KSF home for as long as they have quality of life. These animals require more than basic care and benefit from stability and access to specialty or advanced medical care or behavior modification. Some animals are in hospice care with a family for only a few weeks or months and others remain with the same caregiver for years.
A long term caregiver is different than a temporary foster family in that they are committing to care for the animal for his/her lifetime with our support. Our long term caregivers are provided with ongoing training and support to ensure they can meet the needs of the animals without feeling alone. Most of our caregivers have been with us for over 10 years and have taken in multiple cats and/or dogs.
Each animal is provided a case manager. The case manager ensures the animal gets to medical appointments if the caregiver needs assistance and delivers food/supplies on a monthly basis.
The animals receive wellness checks every six months (sooner if needed), a dietary plan designed just for them, medications and supplements per their treatment plans, on-going specialty treatment (i.e., hydrotherapy, massage, cold laser, acupuncture) and specialty medical care (i.e., dermatology, cardiology, ophthalmology, oncology) per their treatment plans, and all the love they could ever hope for!
Meet some of the animals in our long term programs who will be with us until they no longer have quality of life. There are a few ways to sponsor a long term animal. You can donate directly to one of the animals in care by clicking the button with their name, donate to our general long term care fund where the money will go to the animal most in need, or purchase food/supplies from our Chewy.com Wish List or Amazon.com Gift Registry.
